Be a Pirate Treasure Maps and How to Dig

Prerequisites:
A shovel and one free hold slot
Checked

Treasure maps in Be a Pirate are bought with gold in port and read as a clue. The quest step on record reads “Read the clue, find the X, and dig,” and the cheapest map on that menu cost $300. The store sells higher tiers for Robux, and the Sea Chart carries a mission that counts finished maps. What no source shows is a fixed list of dig spots: the clue is the location.

Buying a map, and what it costs

Two recorded sessions show maps being bought during normal play rather than turning up as a random drop. One shows the steps “Buy a treasure map” and “Read the clue, find the X, and dig” back to back, then a map menu where the player takes the cheap option at $300, which means at least one dearer map sat in the same menu. A second recording stops mid-run on the same line: “I need to buy a treasure map.”

At $300 a map costs about what one good early chest pays. Recorded chest values run from $155 to $750, so the map is small next to a hull, and there is no reason to save it for later.

The recording does not show which counter opens the map menu, so ask at the port shops before you sail out to look for one. It also does not show prices above the cheap row, which is why this page gives no gold ladder for the tiers.

The clue is the location

A map does not drop a sailable pin. It gives one sentence, and in the session on record that sentence names a landmark with a distance and a direction. That is the only instruction the game gives you, so read it before you leave port and pick the island it points at.

  1. Buy the map and read the clue line.
  2. Sail to the island it names. If you have not discovered it yet, Set Course on the map screen is the fastest way there.
  3. Walk the distance from the landmark and find the X the clue leads to.
  4. Dig until the chest is out of the sand, then carry it to the hull.
  5. Sail back and open it at the Treasure Broker for gold and gear.

The carry is the part that costs time: the game applies an 18% speed penalty while the chest is in your arms, and the hold counter only moves when the chest is on the deck. The cargo hold guide covers what to do when a hull has no room left.

Legendary Island

R$399 raises a treasure island near you for the whole server to loot, with no clue to follow

Official store text

Only the port menu is a gold price. Every other row is Robux, and the store describes those maps as being for your current sea, so a purchased tier follows you where you already are instead of unlocking a new one.

The mission that counts finished maps

The Sea Chart frame lists mission lines next to events, and one of them counts maps: “Complete 25 treasure maps 12/25”. The same frame also shows “Sink 10 Ironbound Frigates 1/10”, so the map track runs beside combat objectives instead of replacing them.

Twenty-five is a long track. Treat the counter as a reason to keep buying maps across sessions rather than a target for one run, and note that the frame does not show which action moves it.

Which map to buy

Gold maps first. While the hull is small and every chest has to be carried by hand, a $300 map adds an island to a trip you were already making, and the clue is what stops you digging at random.

Robux tiers only make sense when the map is the missing piece rather than the gold. Three cases:

  • You want more out of each dig. The luck products act on loot: Lucky Digger gives a permanent +25% treasure luck for R$399, a Mega Luck Potion gives +100% treasure luck and double mutation chance for 30 minutes at R$129, and a Luck Potion gives +50% for 15 minutes at R$49. The store publishes the multiplier, not the drop table.
  • You are already in the sea you want to farm. Bought maps are for your current sea, so a Legendary or Mythic purchase does not carry you past a gate that is blocking you. That problem belongs to the compass guide.
  • You want the server to share it. Summon Legendary Island at R$399 raises an island for everyone in the server, so it is a group purchase rather than a private one.

What we could not verify

Four open items would each change a purchase, so they stay written down instead of guessed:

  • Message bottles. One player answer places three bottles around the islands of the Calm Sea. No recording we read shows a bottle, so the count and the sea stay a report rather than a route.
  • The rest of the map menu. The player took “the cheap one,” so at least one dearer map existed, but only the $300 option was readable. We cannot give a gold price for the tiers above it.
  • What Legendary and Mythic change. The store promises a Legendary or Mythic treasure. Whether that changes a chest's loot table or only its value is not published anywhere we could read.
  • Whether luck touches the map itself. The luck products are described against treasure, gear and fishing, so we do not claim they change which map tier turns up.

If the open question is what to do with the chest once it is aboard, the gold guide covers the broker payout and the cargo guide covers the hold. If it is which sea the clue sits in, the map page lists the seas and their gates.

Questions

Frequently Asked Questions

How much does a treasure map cost in Be a Pirate?

The cheapest map on the menu cost $300 gold in one recorded session. The store also sells a Rare map inside the R$99 Founder's Starter Pack, a Legendary map at R$149 and a Mythic map at R$399.

Where do I buy a treasure map in Be a Pirate?

In port, during the quest chain that asks you to buy one. The recorded sessions show the map menu but not which counter opens it, so ask at the port shops before you sail out.

Do treasure maps put an X on the sea chart?

No. A map gives a sentence naming a landmark with a distance and a direction, and the quest step tells you to find the X and dig. The mark is on the island, not on the sea chart.

What is the 25 treasure maps mission in Be a Pirate?

The Sea Chart frame carries a mission line reading “Complete 25 treasure maps 12/25”, so finished maps are tracked separately from combat objectives such as sinking Ironbound frigates.
